- Biofilm dry weight testing
After the biofilm is peeled off, we filter the solution containing the biofilm through a pre-weighed filter membrane, place the filter membrane in a drying box, and dry it to a constant weight. The difference between the weights before and after filtration is the dry weight of the peeled biofilm. Biofilm dry weight is the most commonly used indicator of biofilm parameters.
- Biofilm volatile dry weight (VSS) testing
Biofilm dry weight reflects the total amount of biofilm. The biochemical activity of biofilms is only related to the active biomass, while the volatile dry weight of biofilms can reflect the active biomass of biofilms. In order to obtain more accurate active biomass information, volatile biofilm weights are often used in the study of biofilms. The volatile biofilm weight reflects the content of organic components in the biofilm.
- Biofilm TOC testing
The structural skeleton of the cell is mainly composed of organic carbon. By measuring the total organic carbon content of biofilms (TOC), we can indirectly understand the changes in the amount of biofilms. Especially for slow-growing microorganisms such as nitrifying biofilm, the amount of biofilm is generally small, and it is inconvenient to measure by direct dry weight method. In this case, the analysis of biofilm TOC is more accurate. Currently, the analysis of TOC has been instrumented.
- Biofilm COD testing
The chemical oxygen demand (COD) of biofilms can indirectly describe the amount of biofilms, and is widely used in the study of biofilm reactor dynamics. Biofilm samples after exfoliation can be measured by traditional methods for biofilm COD or by semi-automatic methods.
