  • Detection by microtiter plate assay
    The microtiter plate (MtP) assay is a qualitative assay that detects the efficacy of reagents on biofilm production by a microplate reader. An ongoing process based on the pre-MtP assay to determine the effect of reagents on biofilms.
  • Determination of MBEC by microtiter plate assay
    The biofilm remaining after eradication by the agent is measured by this technique. Bacterial biofilms lining the well walls are formed according to the MtP method. The minimum concentration of an agent known as minimum biofilm eradication concentration (MBEC) to eradicate mature biofilms can be determined by this modified plate assay. MBEC50 and MBEC90 represent the lowest concentrations of agents that inhibit 50% and 90% of mature biofilm formation.
  • Determination of bMIC and bMBC by plate counting
    Quantification of sessile biofilm-embedded bacteria lining abiotic surfaces and sessile biofilm-embedded bacteria remaining on abiotic surfaces following addition of reagents on abiotic surfaces forming mature biofilms was determined by plate count. The lowest agent concentration at which bacterial growth was lower than or equal to the control was determined as the biofilm's biofilm minimum inhibitory concentration (bMIC). bMIC50 and bMIC90 represent the lowest concentration of drug that inhibits 50% and 90% of biofilm-embedded bacteria. After incubation, the lowest agent concentration at which the biofilm-embedded bacterial colonies did not grow was determined as the biofilm minimum bactericidal concentration (bMBC) of the biofilm agent.
  • Determination of combination effects of agents against biofilm
    We used a checkerboard assay to determine the combined effect of two different agents.
