  • We designed forward and reverse primers for biofilm-related genes. First, multiple alignments were performed in NCBI to find species-specific oligonucleotide sequences. Primer3Plus was then used to design primer pairs for biofilm-related genes, and FASTA analysis was used to verify the specificity of primer pairs to microbial sequences in the database.
  • The genomic DNA of microorganisms is extracted by an extraction kit whose protocol can vary depending on the species of microorganism and whether it is Gram-positive or Gram-negative.
  • Biofilm-associated genes were amplified by quantitative real-time PCR, multiplex PCR and conventional PCR to detect the presence of biofilm-related genes in microorganisms.
  • The measurement of biofilm genes inhibited or induced by reagents is accomplished by quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR). Therefore, the efficacy of reagents on biofilm-related genes can be detected by qPCR.
